Anouk Van Offenwert, DMW Gallery, exhibition, Fold the horizon

The painting practice of Anouk Van Offenwert stems from a pronounced joie de peintre: a deep pleasure in the act of painting itself and a continuous curiosity about the interaction between ink, handmade paint, and drawing techniques.

Anouk often works on large, unprimed canvases, where her mental and sensory world is given free rein. The fine-woven texture of unbleached cotton, the intensity of pigment, and observations from nature—ranging from plant structures to atmospheric phenomena—are recurring sources of inspiration in her work.

The artist explores how patterns, lines, and unexpected transformations arise, both in the natural landscape and within the pictorial surface. Her paintings balance between control and surrender, where spontaneous gestures, symbols, and signs generate meaning that hovers between image and language, between intuition and interpretation.

Anouk lives and works in Antwerp. She obtained her Master’s degree in Painting from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in 2021. Earlier, she studied at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 2019 and participated in the Drawing in Practice workshop organized by the Philippe Vandenberg Foundation in 2020.
